My dear Naseem,
Hearty congratulations on your brilliant success in the intermediate examination! I was almost mad with joy when I saw your picture in yesterday’s newspaper, receiving a gold medal from chairman, Federal Board of intermediate and secondary education Islamabad. You have stood first in the HSSC part-1 in pre-medical group. No doubt this has become possible only because of your hard work, devotion and keen interest in studies. In addition, efforts of devoted teachers and prayers of your parents and well wished also played vital role in your success.
I am looking for the time when you pass your HSSC part-2 also with distinction and enter the Medical College.
Pay my regards to your father & mother.

August 1, 2013
My dear Madiha,
The news of your mother’s death came as a severe shock to us. Nothing that one can say in such circumstances can adequately express the feeling which all entertain for you, but it will be some little consolation for you to remember even in your deep grief that your mother was so greatly loved and respected by us all. And that we sincerely mourn the loss of a lady who had endeared herself to everyone. I take this opportunity to express my deepest sympathy and sorrow in your great loss. Trusting that time will serve to lessen your great sorrow, and heal the terrible wound you have sustained.
I am,
With true sympathy,

write to your father explaining to him why you failed in the examination.

August 9, 2013
My dear father,
You have asked me to explain why I did very poor and failed in HSSC Part-1 examination. You know I passed through a critical kidney operation in july  last year. I was much worried about my approaching examination, so I returned back after a few days and joined my college. However, residing in the hostel in the post operation months, some sort of stomach disorder and vomiting never let me pay full attention to my studies. It was perhaps due to the reason that I was not provided with proper diet and care which I could have at my home. No doubt I did hard medication but of no avail. I am studying hard now and hope to pass my next examination in a high first class.

A picnic

My cousin who lives in Islamabad came to see the historic places of Lahore. I thought that a visit to the beautiful Mughal gardens, shalamar, would be an excellent beginning to the sight-seeing tour of Lahore. I invited three of my friends, and one fine morning we went to the gardens. Nasir had his piano with him. On our way we bought some fruits from the market. The sky was overcast, but not heavily. It was an ideal day for a picnic. A gust of cool and fresh air greeted us as we entered the main gate of the shalamar gardens. A great number of people were here. They had spread their carpets and mats all over the place. A large number of children were running, shouting, laughing and holding multi-coloured balloons in their hands. After some time, we found a small lawn in a corner of the garden which was still unoccupied. So we put our things there. A garden watchman promised us to look after our things in our absence. We strolled about the garden. It was so beautiful that we could not find words to express our admiration. The beautiful trees, especially the cypress, the well-kept lawns, the typical Mughal fountains, so different from the modern ones, and the different tiers of the garden cast a spell over us. My cousin was tongue-tied with delight. He had not seen anything like it in Islamabad. We were so absorbed in the beauty of the garden that we forgot everything. After some time we returned to the place where the garden watchman was guarding our things. We thanked and invited him to share our lunch. After lunch we thought for a nap. So we laid down on the grass and fell asleep. It was three 0’ clock when my cousin shook my shoulder. My friends were already up. I washed my face and poured some cold water on my head. Now I was fully awake. My cousin wanted some tea. The watchman brought us some very good tea. This put my cousin in high spirits. He asked Nasir to play his piano. Nasir did not wait for the second request, and played a beautiful tone. All of us were spell bound. Suddenly a peal of thunder broke the spell. The clouds were thick and low. Most of the people had left. We collected our things and rushed out of the garden. Fortunately, we found a taxicab at the gate. Thus a memorable day had ended.

Examinations

There is hardly a student who is not afraid of the examination. The very word “examination” spells terror in the hearts of the students. Even the most hardworking students turn pale before the start of exams. In my view, if a student has worked hard and has paid attention to all the requirement of the syllabus, he need not worry. Only those students who have wasted their time and remain oblivious of study have no other alternative than to worry and fear. A student should never have recourse to guess work and selection from a prescribed syllabus. The should study ever thing which has been prescribed for him by the academic authorities. This alone is the surest way to overcome the fear and awe of examination.

A Marriage party

My friend's marriage took place on last monday. I attended the marriage party. In the morning the bridegroom was neatly dressed. He got on a mare's back. A child sat behind him. Ladies sang sweet songs. The marriage party started for the bride's home. The musical band began to play everybody was happy and cheerful. The party moved very slowly. It stopped at many places. On the way, fireworks were let off. Some crackers were fired. My friend's uncle threw coins over the bride-groom. After an hour, we reached the bride's house. We were received warmly. Then were served with cold drinks.

Female education

Education is defined “as preparation for complete living”. The preparation is as essential for a women as for as for a man. For certain reasons it is even more essential for a woman. The role of woman is essentially that of a nation-builder. Therefore, her part is very important. By educating a man we have only trained an individual, but by educating a woman we have laid the sure foundations for the good breeding of a whole family. Children educated they imparts such training to their children as helps them to grow to their fullest stature. But if the mother herself is ignorant she will allow her children to grow into foolish, unrefined citizens. In this way her influence is deeper than that of a man. By educating a woman, we build up the morals of a nation. Hence female education is very important.

My farvourite poet

Allama Iqbal is my favourite poet. He is our national poet. He was born in sialkoy on November 9, 1877. He graduated from murray college. He passed his M.A. from the Government college, Lahore. Then he went to Europe for higher education. On his return, he worked as professor in Lahore. He died on April 21, 1938. He is very famous as a poet. He wrote many poems for the  Muslims. These poems are full of good ideas. They have a message for us. Some of the poems are for children. They are full of good advice for them. He gave us the idea of Pakistan. He was a true muslim. May his soul rest in peace.

The television

The Television is a wonderful invention. It was invented by Baird. It is a part and parcel of every modern home. It is not cheap. Its price is very high. It is an addition to the Radio. On the radio we only listen. On the television, we listen as well as see. Pictures are sent by electric waves. There are programmes of all kinds. It presents news, dramas, songs, dances with pictures. It entertains us. It adds to our knowledge. It is a sort of cinema at home. It has made our life cheerful. Television is one of the most wonderful inventions of science. By sitting in our home, we can have access to the news of all the world. We can learn what has happened in the world in the previous one hour. On the other hand, it presents a lot of recreational programmes. After the exhaustions of the whole day, we can refresh ourselves by watching a comedy programme on the television. There  is an abundant variety of programme. Every person can choose a channel of his liking and can have diversion. The viewer can watch news broadcasting, talk-shoes, dramas, music programmes, speeches of the leaders. In short, it is an invention which has boredom.

My aim in life

My aim in life is to be a doctor. It is noble profession.  A doctor gets many chances to serve human beings. He can save the people from diseases. He can also earn a lot of money. My wish is to serve the poor. I shall treat them free of charge. I shall give them medicines free of cost. I shall go to villages and treat the sick people. I shall be kind to the patients. I shall teat them with are and attention. For this I shall be respected everywhere. Now, I am studying science. I am working very hard. May God help me in my aim.

My neighbor

My aim in life is to be a doctor. It is noble profession.  A doctor gets many chances to serve human beings. He can save the people from diseases. He can also earn a lot of money. My wish is to serve the poor. I shall treat them free of charge. I shall give them medicines free of cost. I shall go to villages and treat the sick people. I shall be kind to the patients. I shall teat them with are and attention. For this I shall be respected everywhere. Now, I am studying science. I am working very hard. May God help me in my aim.

My hobby

A hobby is something that we do for pleasure in our spare time. My favourite hobby is stam-collecting. I collect new as well as old stamps. Now I have four albums of stamps. I do not spend much on stamps I have pen-friends all over the world. I exchange stamps with them. I learn much from this hobby. Each stamp tells me a story. I see pictures of birds and animals. I  see king and presidents. This hobby is a joy for me. It is full of knowledge. It is also a paying hobby. Sometimes, I have many stamps of the same kind. I sell some of them. A hobby is something that we do for pleasure in our spare time. There are many kinds of hobbies. Every man has his own hobby. My hobbies are gardening and photography. Gardening is a useful and cheap hobby. It is very difficult. I work in my small garden for one hour. I get flowers and vegetables from there. It is a good exercise also. Photography is a costly hobby. I have a camera. I spend my pocket-money buying films. I like to have snapshots of places and persons. This hobby is paying also. I can sell beautiful snapshots of natural scenery. These hobbies keep me busy and give me joy. Hobbies are those pastimes which are acquired to divert our attention from the regular work. These are meant to give enjoyment to the person. A clerk who suffers rebukes and insults from his officers can experienced immense pleasure is listening to the musing in his home. A student who is weary of studies can feel inexpressible pleasure in the play field. A professor after tiring lectures can feel immense pleasure by chatting with his colleagues over a cup of tea. Gardening, ticket or coin-collecting, reading books, keeping pets are names of hobbies which can divert us greatly after hard labour of our regular work. So, it is good for our bodily and mental heath that we should have some hobby.

My favorite dish (pulau)

My favourite dish is pulau. I like it much. It is prepared with rice, meat and ghee. It is very delicious. We enjoy this dish on every Sunday. It is served in every feast. In the marriage feasts, pulau is the special dish. Cooking this dish is an art. First rice is put into a pot full of water. After an hour or two, it is washed. Then meat is fried in ghee in a pot. Some water is added to it. Now rice is put into the broth. This mixture is given heat. At intervals, rice is forked so that every grain is separate. After a while, the dish is ready. Pulau is of different kinds. The pulau I like is called biryani.

Floods

Floods are as old mankind. The story of the greatest deluge, the flood of Hazrat Nooh (A.S) has been related in the Holy scriptures. Floods are natural phenomenon. People living in the river plains are often afflicated with floods during the rainy season. They are both creator and destroyer. In normal course, floods wash away the filth, dirt and excess salts, and transport them to the sea. During floods rivers bring silt and alluvial soil and deposit them along the banks and the deltas. They make the most fertile lands. The indus plain and the plain and delta of the Ganges are the most fertile parts of indopak. In many countries logs and lumbered wood are floated down during floods and brought to the factories. In Pakistan normal floods feed the irrigation system, and supply water to the head-works of the perennial canals. But more than often floods are destructive.Like earthquakes and volcanoes, flood is a natural calamity. They play havoc with human life and property. In Pakistan floods are considered natural hazards. The conservative people think them to be the visitation of wrath of God. No doubt, in the recent past, floods have proved very destructive and harmful. Hundreds of valuable human lives are lost; villages, live-stock and houses are washed away and destroyed. Standing crops are submerged under water or killed. Roads, bridges, dams and railway lines are broken or washed away. It is true time and tide wait for none. Their force and fury are so great and terrifying that all human efforts to save human lives and property are rendered helpless. People raise their hands in prayer to God and beg for His mercy. In Pakistan floods are very common. The indus and its tributaries are often in flood. Sometimes the floods are very destructive. They defy all protective measures. They erode the banks and silt the canals. The standing water creates grave problems of water-logging and salinity that pose serious. Threat for the agriculturists and a great challenge for the government. In spite of all scientific progress and man’s command over the forces of nature, he is helpless in facing the natural calamities. He dwindles into a dwarf against the gigantic forces. Indeed, God punishes man in many ways.

Knowledge is power

Power, as Bertrand Russell tells us, is the ultimate end of human activities. Even the humblest man who cannot win power thinks of it in his dreams. The uncultured primitive who indulged in tribal feuds was as much fond of power as the modern, unassuming, polished democrat who talks of peace in the British Parliament. The methods may differ, but the passion for power is fundamentally the same. This power is of two kinds: physical and mental. When a bully throws down a boy in the class, we at once understand what physical power is. But when an engineer tames a stormy river and spans oceans with ships, he shows his mental superiority over the primitive brute who could fight with lions and bears. All the great discoveries and inventions  on which the modern civilization is built, are manifestation of the power of knowledge. The early man worshipped rivers, mountains and other elemental forces of nature. He worshipped them because he was afraid of them. Today we have harnessed these forces to the service of mankind, because knowledge has given us a power unimagined by the primitive man. Rivers irrigate our lands, wind grinds our flour, tidal waves run our electric plants in this way, knowledge has put a power in human hands which is hundredfold greater than physical power.

The red colour is most common. These flowers are used for making garlands bunch of flowers are presented as gifts. Rose-water is used in medicines. Rose-scent is very costly.

My favourite book

I have read many books. But my favourite book is the HOLY QURAN. It is our holy book. It was revealed to our prophet. It is written in Arabic. I study it daily in the morning. I read its translation also. It has 30 parts and 114 sections. We recite it in our prayers. It is the message of GOD. It is for the guidance of man. It is full of knowledge and wisdom it tells us how to please GOD. It advises us how to live good life. There are rules and regulations for the Muslims. There are stories of nations in it. From them, we can learn many lessons. Some Muslims learn this book by heart . They are called hafiz.

How to make homemade jam-easily!

Making your own jam is quite easy. My mother loves to make fruit jams at home. You too can make homemade jams and jellies if you follow these few simple steps.First check the jars for cracks chips. Then wash the jars and their lids in hot, soapy water. Second place the jars and their lids in boiling water to sterilize. Make sure the water is boiling when you add the jars and that the water comes up and covers the top of the jars. Let the jars sit in boiling water for 10 minutes. Later on remove jars and let them cool. While the jars and lids boil, prepare your fruit. If you are making peach jam, the first thing you need to do is to wash peaches, secondly use a knife to chop them into small pieces and subsequently remove the seeds. The next thing you should do is measure out sugar and set aside. Afterwards boil the peaches and the sugar together and using a masher, crush the peaches. Next open the packet of the preservative and add this to the crushed fruit and sugar and then let these cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat. If foam appears at the top of the pan, remove with a spoon. Finally fill your hot jars with the hot jam.
